12. Larche – The Memorial Path “SES Costa de Beauregard”

The little village of Larche was the theatre for the Battle of the Alps in the decisive days which saw the French Chasseurs des Alpes fighting Mussolini’s troops. On 20 June 1940 there was fierce fighting high in the mountains and the armistice of 25 June confirms the efficacy of the Maginot line in the Alps. But this was a political victory for Mussolini... The memorial path takes you through this page in the history books and the memory of the ski scouts led by Lieutenant Costa de Beauregard. A loop taking about 3hrs leads to the information boards outlining the main points of the Battle of the Alps, from here you can then go back to the border to get a panoramic view of the mountains involved in these events.
